MDUSD Email Guidelines:
Email has become a widely-used tool for conducting business in MDUSD. Following the guidelines below will assist us all to make best use of this resource. If you would like to print these out, formatted for a single page, please see the attachment link below.

Use the Subject line to clearly summarize your message. Properly titled messages help people organize and prioritize their email. Avoid generic subject lines. If you are starting a new conversation, don't reply to an old email that has a different subject.
Be cautious with the CC (Carbon Copy) function. Overuse simply clutters inboxes. Copy only people who are directly involved.
Use the Reply to All button carefully. You may end up broadcasting your response to many more people than intended and create work for those who do not need to see your response.
Use BCCs (Blind Carbon Copies) when addressing a message that will go to a large group of people, so recipients won't have to see a huge list of names. By using BCC, each recipient sees only two email addresses - theirs and yours.
Remember that email is not private. Never put in an email message anything that you wouldn't put on a postcard. Remember that email can be forwarded, so unintended audiences may see what you have written.
Keep messages brief and to the point. Concentrate on one subject per message whenever possible.
Use a signature that includes contact information to ensure that people know who you are.
Watch formatting. Do not overuse colors or graphics because not everyone uses an email program that can display them. Examples of this include "cute" pictures, non-standard fonts, or colorful page backgrounds. Also, USING ALL CAPITAL LETTERS in email appears to be shouting.
Direct personal email to your home email account. District mail resources are intended solely for MDUSD-related business.
Don't send chain letters, virus warnings or junk mail. Always check a reputable antivirus web site or the TIS department before sending out an alarm.
